Music is an integral part of Grenadian life and culture and serves as a pivotal point for connecting all things Grenadian.
Grenada's indigenous populations have always found unique ways to express themselves musically. The factors and forces which have combined to forge Grenada's musical identity are many and varied and can be felt and heard today in all aspects of Grenadian musical expression.
With Emancipation from slavery, a bold and triumphant musical art-form was propelled into the spotlight as Calypso took center stage. Accompanied by the pulsating, melodic notes from the steel-pan, Grenadian music took on an identity and sound that was and remains today, uniquely its own.
Today, Grenada's musical tradition continues to evolve. We salute the musical luminaries of our distant and recent past, embrace the current troubadours and excitedly await the emergence and contributions of future stalwarts. The journey is far from over and the mission is by no means complete.
